Final Condominium Act Regulations and New Dates for Implementation

The law firms of Miller Thomson and Gowling have just posted updates on the Condo Act and regulations.

Miller Thomson’s June 14^th Special Edition of MTCondoLaw provides information on new dates as well as many helpful links.

Rod Escayola of Gowling WLG has just posted two blog articles that provide links to the final General Regulation (48/01), the Regulation designating the Condo Authority (181/17), the Regulation setting up the Condo Authority Tribunal (179/17), and the latest implementation dates.

The key dates are:

September 1, 2017	The Condo Authority of Ontario (CAO) will become responsible for the administration of certain provisions of the Condo Act, including the management and oversight of the tribunal.
November 1, 2017	Implementation of the new tribunal and the licensing of managers under the Condo Management Services Act.
November 1, 2017	The new Condo Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) will be responsible to administer the Condominium Management Services Act including the licensing of condo managers and providers.
February 2018	Remainders of the Condominium Management Services Act to come into effect.
Coming Soon	A series of new forms under the Condo Act to make it easier for condo corporations and owners to comply with the new requirements (proxies, records requests, AGM pre-notice, etc.). A set of plain language guides and fact sheets to help Ontario’s condo community better understand the new condo law changes. The education and exam requirements for condo managers
Public Consultation	The ministry will also be seeking public input on future regulations, including: Public registry of condo corporations. Complaints procedures, code of ethics and insurance requirements for condo managers.
